Summary
The book All People are Beautiful by Vincent Kelly celebrates multicultural differences and shares with children how being human brings us together and highlights our beauty. The author creates a key theme that all people are beautiful, but it does not matter how you look-it matters how you treat each other.

Literary Elements
Kelly uses creative rhymes and colorful imagery to captivate readers and illustrate how our features makes us unique. I would classify this story as contemporary realistic fiction as the story is set in modern times with settings and characters that could exists in the real world. Throughout the text, readers are encourages to learn greetings in different languages through colorful illustrations. Vincent writes, "We all speak different languages. There are so many things to learn from each other, so we need all of these" (Kelly, 2021). Because our lived experiences shape our classroom environment, it is essential for multicultural literature to be incorporated in content areas.

Illustrations
The illustrations throughout the book use vivid colors that catch your eye. The characters throughout the illustrations are diverse and unique to celebrate the central theme. Images are used of people of all ages and sizes celebrating each other to contribute to the narrative.

Personal Reflection
I chose this book for a representation of culturally diverse literature because the text represents the unique qualities of humanity and reminds us that while we are diverse, we are all connected. Character portrayals within the text  avoid stereotypes and invite readers to reflect on diverse cultures. As quoted in the textbook Literature and the Child, 'All readers need outstanding books that are also richly diverse in order to develop understandings and practices that will help them function well in the twenty-first century' (Galda et al., 2015).  Vincent's book promotes these ideals in a positive light. All People are Beautiful will certainly be a new addition to my culturally diverse classroom library.

Motivational Activities
Create your own Character
Before reading the story ask the class what the word beautiful means. Can beautiful describe something other than how we look? What is something you think is beautiful?
After reading the story All People are Beautiful students can create their own character using a character template provided by the author. The template features an outline of a child's body without distinctive characteristics. Students will be instructed to create their own character by adding clothing, hair, facial features, and other unique distinct characteristics.

Discussion Questions
Students can respond to discussion questions such as:  Are there any two characters that look the same? What would the world be like if we all looked the same? What makes your character stand out? How can we celebrate the people around us?  After students are done with their characters they will be invited to share their characters unique features with the class. Characters can be hung around the classroom as a representation of the community of diverse learners within the classroom.
